T4, Week 2
Equestrian - ISHE

This last week the MCS Equestrian Team had five students represent the school at the Interschool Horse Extravaganza held annually in Tamworth. These representative riders were; Cadence, Shea, Olivia, and siblings Sophie and Archie. The riders, their families, Coach Mrs Emma Broome and Manager Ms Di Pietsch spent 5 days at Tamworth competing alongside some 700 other riders from schools across NSW.
The events included:
Day 1: Eventing
Day 2: One Day Event (Dressage Test, Show Jumping and Cross Country Jumping) or Combined Training (Dressage and Show Jumping)
Day 3: Dressage and Show Jumping
Day 4: Show Horse and Rider classes, Working Horse Challenge
Day 5: Campdrafting and Sporting Events
Each night there were novelty competitions which the children eagerly participated in. These included Friday (the sausage dog race), Saturday (The Woof and Hoof which involved the whole team dressing up, two horses and two dogs completing a jumping circuit). MCS Proudly won this event from the judges and also was the crowd favourite. Sunday night they entered the Team Mug Race which is a novelty relay race involving riding the horses and moving mugs from pole to pole at speed.
The MCS Team demonstrated our C.H.R.I.S.T Values throughout every aspect of the competition and supported and encouraged each other with enthusiasm. The team spirit was strong and the children shone joy and love of the sport. Their days started early with feeding and watering horses and mucking out stables. After this they either got their horses ready for competing or exercised their horses if they were competing later in the day. The events started by 8am each day and concluded around 4pm with the night events beginning again by 6pm. I couldn’t be more proud of the way these young people worked together and cheered each other along. A huge shout out goes to each of their parents who volunteered tirelessly throughout the event to run classes and physically run score sheets across the venue, and always with a smile. I might add it was around 32°C every day. Behind each smiling, happy and exhausted child is a supportive parent who washes, grooms and plaits up the horse, mixes feed, packs and unpacks gear and organises their child (just to mention a few things). It has been such a blessing to share these days with these students and families.

HRIS Opens Volleyball Gala Day
This week, our senior students took to the courts for the HRIS Opens Volleyball Gala Day. The level of competition was outstanding, and our teams enjoyed a well-earned measure of success.
The Girls' team faced tough competition in their pool games but showed improvement with every match. Their resilience paid off in the finals series, culminating in a critical draw and a strong win. They were fearless, putting their bodies on the line and fighting hard for every single point.
The Boys' team had a highly successful day, topping their pool with a series of decisive wins. Their semi-final was a hard-fought battle against the eventual tournament winners. Though they started strong, they were ultimately outplayed. Their impressive fourth-place finish overall is a true testament to the raw skill and talent of the boys.
Both teams demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the day and never backed down, even in the toughest moments.
Well done to our Senior Volleyballers!

Mr A Gill
The Volleyball Gala went really well! We all had so much fun together, cheering each other on through both the wins and losses. As the day went on, we definitely improved, getting more confident on the court, communicating better, and moving more as a team. It was such a great day filled with teamwork, laughter, and school spirit!

Big Bike News for MCS Students
We’re thrilled to share some exciting cycling achievements from two of our talented riders.
In late September, Luke (Year 8) competed at the NSW BMX State Championships, where he took out first place in both the BMX and BMX Cruiser events in the 13-year-old age group — an outstanding double victory!
Just last week, Luke followed up at the National BMX Championships in Sydney, where he became the National Champion in the 13-year-old category. This is Luke’s second consecutive National title, having also won in a younger age group last year.
Luke also competed in the National Pump Track Championships over the weekend and took out first place in the Under 15 category. This adds to his previous win in the Under 13s division, making it two National Pump Track titles in as many years.
Luke is a dedicated member of the MCS Mountain Bike Program and regularly supports and encourages other riders during Bike Club and Sport. Congratulations Luke on your incredible achievements — we’re proud of you!

Nick, from our recently graduated Year 12 cohort, has also had a successful year competing in mountain bike enduro and downhill racing.
While completing his HSC studies, Nick managed to compete in the NSW Gravity Series across both disciplines, producing consistent results throughout the season. He capped off the year with an impressive 3rd place finish in the NSW Gravity Enduro State Championships, held at Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park.
Nick has been involved with the MCS MTB Program since Year 5, and over the years has developed into a passionate, competitive, and determined rider. His commitment to the sport, along with the encouragement he’s offered younger riders, has been a real asset to our cycling community.
We are incredibly proud of Nick’s growth and achievements, and we pray for success and safety as he continues his MTB journey beyond school.
