T4, Week 2

TaikOz Musicaviva Visit

The pulsing of taiko rhythms echoed through the MPC and our students were excited to see the culmination of their learning of the past 13 weeks. Ruchi played the bamboo flute to start the performance, and Haruka displayed her drumming skills while Bridget danced to demonstrate how the music we hear impacts the way we move.  The dancing chair was a hit, especially when Mr Wenham got to have a turn at picking the moves. Other students also loved hearing the calming and peaceful sounds of the ‘singing bowls’.

Emilia said that the performance made her “feel really, really happy” and other students felt “really, really excited”.

Below are some other student reflections:

I liked the dancing.

-Archie A

I liked when they did the drum rolls, drumming really fast, on the taikos.

-Archie M

I liked when the dancer was cartwheeling lots of times in a row.

-Halliebelle

When Bridget was dancing, she stood on her head and then did lots of leg movements in the air.

-Ebony

The magic dance chair was cool. It was interesting how different people chose different moves based on the same drumming rhythms.

-Serenity

The dancing was cool and I liked how she flew in the air.

-Isla

When they used the large taiko, you could feel the vibrations in the ground.

-Jackson

Ruchi was funny, energetic and captured my attention. His actions got me excited for what was going to happen.

-Tobias

I loved the singing bowls. They made me feel calm and relaxed.

-Charles

I liked how Bridget was dancing with the chair as she was bringing it out to us.

-Gabby

The TaikOz performers commented on the beautiful manners, respectful culture and musical response of our students to their presentation - congratulations Prep to Year 6 on your beautiful audience manners and engagement with our visiting performers.
