Camp is coming next week! We are nearly ready with our cabin groups and day groups being published, and everyone is beginning to talk about the activities, the multitude of warm clothes they need to bring along with the oodies and ugg boots for the evenings.

A reminder for our families: we leave at 7:00am on Wednesday 18th June and return on Friday 20th June, around 5:30 pm (depending on the traffic). Travel updates will be provided to families by the school through the Sentral Parent App. If contact at camp is required, please use the number provided on the Parent Information Note to speak to Mrs Neale.

Visual Arts Excursion to the Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes and the Museum of Contemporary Art

On Thursday last week, our Stage 5 and Year 11 Visual Arts students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in some of Australia’s most exciting contemporary art on an inspiring excursion to Sydney.

We began the day at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where students explored the 2025 finalists for the prestigious Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes. Having studied these awards in class, it was a powerful experience for students to engage with the artworks in person. The collection sparked deep conversations - some works challenged their perceptions, others left them wide-eyed and many prompted an enthusiastic "Wow!" as students responded to the creativity and technical skill on display.

After lunch in Circular Quay, we made our way to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Here, students experienced a wide range of contemporary works, including a number of significant First Nations artworks. The visit provided valuable insight into the diversity of contemporary Australian practice and offered new perspectives on identity, culture and storytelling.

Our students were exceptional representatives of our Christian school community - respectful, engaged and thoughtful throughout the day. We are proud of them and thankful for the rich learning experiences this excursion provided.

Stand Tall

Senior Secondary had an amazing day at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour on Thursday, attending 'Stand Tall' 2025. Alongside 5,000 other high school students they listened to inspirational speakers and watched outstanding performances. Daniel Flynn, co-founder of the 'Thank you' bottled water and extensive toiletry products range, spoke of his amazing resilience to overcome setbacks to help world poverty. Leila Abdallah shared the story of losing 3 of her children to a drunk driver and going on to establish the i4Give Foundation and the significance of faith in her journey. Whilst a student favourite was Michael Crossland who defied the odds of a lifetime of cancer to build a lifetime of extraordinary achievements helping others. Musician, Timomatic was a fan favourite as were various other dance and vocal items. A full day that left our seniors tired but uplifted and inspired!

Year 9 Geography: Sustainable Biomes Diorama Project

This week, our Year 9 students submitted their Geography assessment on sustainable biomes, showcasing outstanding creativity and depth of understanding. As part of the task, students researched the features, flora, fauna, and human impact on a chosen biome, then represented their findings through a diorama. Oscar created a vibrant rainforest scene using printed animals, rocks collected from local beaches, and even repurposed party poppers for vines. “I really enjoyed using things from my front yard to build my biome,” he shared. Dylan also embraced the challenge, saying, “It was hard to find little animal toys in shops, so I made my own—which I ended up really enjoying.” Mrs Woolley said she was amazed by the quality, effort, and creativity displayed across the class. Leo Middleby, proud of his final result, joked, “I’ll accept nothing less than an A after this!

Interschools Chess Competition

On a cold and wet Thursday, MCS was well represented by Dylan, Lucas, Raphael, Charlie, Danny, Harper, Darcy, Navrin, Aditya, Brayden, Angus, Hamish and Jack in the Hunter Interschools Chess competition. The competition was played at Bishop Tyrell College and run by the Sydney Chess Academy. In a teams format each player competed in 7 timed matches. All of our representatives won matches, played well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Lucas won five of his seven matches and was our best performing player. The team was a pleasure to take away and represented our school with distinction. A big thank you to Mrs Coates and Mrs Lukins for their help with the organisation of the team.
