T2, Week 1

Welcome back to Term 2

It was lovely to see our students smiling as they returned to school this week, despite the rainy days! The week began by commemorating the 110th anniversary of the ANZACS, with a whole school assembly. It ended with our students displaying perseverance and courage as they represented our school at the HRIS Cross country carnival.

Winter Uniform

As we head into the cooler weather, our students begin to wear their Full Formal Winter Uniform from Monday, Week 3. If families are finding a shortage of winter items and/or sizes, please email MCSStudentServices@acc.edu.au or your child’s class teacher to let us know.

Please also refer to the Uniform information and Uniform Policy in the Whole School News for further details.

Each week we are excited to hear from inside our Primary classrooms and find out what is happening. Please enjoy this week’s instalment from Kindergarten…

Kindergarten - Term 2 Week 1

Welcome to life in Kindergarten! We have settled into life at school so quickly and are learning new things every day. We have Literacy time in the morning, where we learn about phonemic awareness and how sounds work together to make words. We have even started to blend 3 and 4 letter words together. We are getting very good at listening to the first and final sound in words and love using our whiteboards to show our understanding. Recently, we have started writing the long date on the whiteboard, remembering that our date is written as day name, date number, month and year. This week we have learned about living in Australia and being able to look up at the stars to see the Southern Cross.

After recess we jump into Maths. We are using rhymes to remember the formation of our numbers. One of our favourites is “around the tree, around the tree, that’s the way to make a three!” Another one we love to sing is “draw an S and close the gate, now we’ve made the number eight!” We love using counters, cubes, shapes and other hands-on materials to better understand mathematical concepts.

Life in Kindergarten is full of excitement! We had a visit from the ducks in the Ag plot, we enjoy seeing our Year 5 and 6 buddies each fortnight and have been learning a healthy sense of competition by learning our House Groups; Lions, Eagles, Brumbies and Rams. We have taken part in Full House, where we were able to connect with Year 10 and engage in fun outdoor activities. We love being in Kindergarten and are looking forward to a trip to the zoo and celebrating 100 Days at school during Term 2.
