NAPLAN
It has been so encouraging to see the positive attitude that our Year 3 and Year 5 students have brought to their NAPLAN assessments this week. As I wandered around the classrooms to check on our students, they were all very focused on the task they were completing and it was clear that they were giving their best. NAPLAN is a helpful tool for us to see the strengths of our students as well as the areas that we need to spend more time providing them with more Explicit Direct Instruction and practice. It is a great opportunity for our students to use a growth mindset to do their best to rise to the challenge of participating in a nationwide assessment.
Building Resilience In Primary Students
At MCS we have the great privilege to partner with our parents in helping our students become the amazing people that God has created them to be. This involves teaching our students academic skills but of much greater importance is the teaching of strategies to help them build their resilience and grow through challenge throughout their lives. The Oxford Dictionary defines resilience as: the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties. It is important for our students to develop this skill because it allows them to learn and grow in any situation that they find themselves in. These two skills are vital to wellbeing and development. It helps them to face new situations, people and experiences with confidence and a positive mindset which will make them more likely to succeed.
We believe that the Bible is the most effective tool in helping our students develop resilience as it teaches us about God’s great love for us and his salvation plan to bring us back into relationship with Him and the people around us. At MCS we use three main programs to teach our students life skills and resilience. These are the Peace Wise Program, the Zones of Regulation and the You Can Do It Program.
![]() | Teaches students how to respond positively to conflict and work towards peace with God and others. |
![]() | Students are taught to identify whether they are in the blue, green, orange or red zone as well as strategies that they can use to help themselves regulate when they are in each zone. |
![]() | Students learn about having a growth mindset and facing challenging situations in a way that they can grow. |
We encourage our parents to allow their children to face challenging situations and give them their best go, in order for our children to develop into the people that God has called them to be. (Learning Links, 2024)
Easter
Easter is a very special time at MCS when we remember the great sacrifice that Jesus made by dying on the cross to bring us back into relationship with Him. A very popular aspect of Easter is the exchanging of Easter Eggs to celebrate new life. If your child would like to bring Easter eggs to school to share with their friend we request that they save this for Easter Thursday, 28th March.
Ball Games at School
In our Primary Department we love our students being active and engaging in sport during their break times. We have a good selection of sport equipment including soccer balls, footballs and tennis balls that our students are able to borrow. In order to promote positive social interactions during sport games we request that students do not bring their own soccer, football or tennis balls from home.
