It has been a busy week in the Primary Department! We started the week gathering together during Primary Lines when Ms Nala taught us the fortnight’s memory verse:

I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me - John 10:14

Some of our students enjoyed pretending to be shepherds and acting out the verse. One of my highlights of the week is listening to our students learning scripture. It is such a positive thing for them to do and will help them for the rest of their lives as they are able to quickly bring the Word of God to their remembrance when they face challenging times.

NAIDOC Art Workshop

On Thursday, 10th August our First Nations students participated in a NAIDOC Week cultural workshop. Our students enjoyed spending time in the sunshine with Zalie and Kaiyu, representatives from the Murrook Education Centre. They openly shared stories about their love of Country and significant elders close to their heart. Students were encouraged to use a variety of techniques and colours to create their own symbolic artwork. The leaders appreciated how polite, kind and creative our students were. You will find their unique pieces displayed throughout the Primary Department.

Stage 3 Soccer Gala Day

On Tuesday a team of very talented Stage 3 boys represented our school in the HRIS Stage 3 Soccer Gala Day. The boys had spent many sport lessons practising for the competition and they displayed skill and sportsmanship as they played hard in the competition. A special thanks goes to Mr Wenham and Mrs Urra for coaching the team and supporting them on the day.

Seasons For Growth Program

Learning to live with change and loss.

Everyone is affected by change and loss at some time in our lives. At MCS we recognise that when change occurs such as separation, divorce, death, school transitions and natural disasters children may benefit from learning the skills to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering an education program called Seasons of Growth which will commence in Week 5. This program is facilitated in small groups of up to 7 participants and is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on building skills such as how to manage feelings, problem solving, decision making, effective communication and develops peer support networks. Participation in the program can promote improved self esteem and self confidence as well as giving children the opportunity to find their own voice amid change.

If you would like your child to be part of this program please contact Mrs Kim Kamper or Mrs Kim Fedder at KimKamper@acc.edu.au or KimFedder@acc.edu.au

MCS Bike Track

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful facility like our Bike Track at MCS. Our students love participating in Bike Club at lunch time and Mountain Bike Riding for Sport. We are able to run such exciting programs because we have teachers who give up their lunch time to supervise the students and make sure that they are safe. The Bike Track is, however, unsupervised before and after school and in order to maintain student safety we ask that students not use the track during these times.
