There is so much news and information for us to share with our Primary parents and students this week, with lots of exciting events in the lead up to our holidays. Please take the time to read through all of the information.

Building Positive School Culture

ree

The Primary team are so encouraged to see the academic, physical, social, emotional and spiritual growth that we have seen in our students during this term. This week, Mrs Hutton and I have had Stage 2 students share some excellent narrative writing with us and we have been encouraged to hear our students referring to the Peace Wise principles that we have been focusing on when working through conflict that naturally arises throughout the day. It is exciting to hear our students acknowledge that while conflict is challenging they are able to use strategies to work towards peace. It is also very encouraging to hear them acknowledge that conflict can be an opportunity for them to grow by putting God first, being kind to the other person and becoming more like Jesus. The growth in our school culture is also evident in the number of our Primary Award recipients this week receiving their award for the way in which they demonstrate our R.O.C.K acronym Respect, Obedience, Confidence and Kindness. I look forward to seeing continued growth in our students as we strive to build positive school culture as the year progresses.

Cross Country

Another example of our positive school culture being put into action was our students’ enthusiastic engagement with the Cross Country on Wednesday. It was lovely to see how flexible our Infants students were when we changed the plan due to wet weather and a great time was had by all running a challenging obstacle course in the MPC. The champions of the day were our parents who all competed so hard in the parent race! Stage 2 and Stage 3 were blessed to have the sun come out and these students should be highly commended for the way in which they embraced the challenge of long distance running, persisted when it was difficult and celebrated when they crossed the finish line. A big thank you goes to the Stage 5 students who assisted with all the activities on Wednesday and helped make the day most enjoyable for the Primary Students. We wish all the students who will now progress to the HRIS Cross Country all of God’s blessings as you represent MCS by using your gift and talent of long distance running.

Easter Celebrations

ree

It is that special time of year again when we reflect on the depth of God’s love and how he sent his son Jesus to die for us in order for us to have life with Him. The message of Easter will be our focus next week and the Primary students will engage in many learning experiences to give them the opportunity to explore the message of Easter. This will begin on Monday, 3rd April with a special Whole School Easter Chapel. The Chapel service will begin at 10:20am and will take place in the Lighthouse.

Following this service, throughout the week, our Primary students will be involved in class devotions around the message of Easter, craft activities and games. As part of our teaching about Easter and our celebration of the resurrection of Jesus each student will receive a small Cadbury milk chocolate egg. If you do not want your child to receive an Easter Egg please let their class teacher know. Alternate sugar free Easter treats will also be available.

Change in Primary Assembly and Chapel Times

It has been so lovely to have so many parents join us for Primary Assembly this term. We realise that after attending assembly many parents like to take their children home to enjoy the weekend. To help facilitate this we have decided to change the time of Primary Assembly and Chapel. From Term 2, Primary Chapel and Assembly will begin at 2:15pm and will conclude by 3:10pm, at the end of the school day. As per Term 1, Primary Chapel will run on the odd weeks of term beginning in Week 3 and Assembly will run on the even weeks of term beginning in Week 2. Parents are warmly invited to join us for both these community events that are held in the lighthouse.
