Science Week 2025
This year, we dipped our toes into several activities to celebrate National Science Week. Science Week had the theme of Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature's hidden language. To investigate this theme, students from across the school had the opportunity to engage in a range of activities during their lunchtimes in the Science labs.
Activities included:
Fingerprinting
Decoding animal tracks
Sending Morse code messages.
Looking at Fibonacci sequences in nature using pine cones and sunflowers
Setting up electrical circuits
During lunchtime on Wednesday, Mrs Lukins with Mr Gill’s help, presented a science show demonstrating the properties of dry ice to the amazement of our students.
These activities provided students with the opportunity to work collaboratively, to discuss and enjoy exploring science in a different way than usual at school.
Thanks to Mrs Lukins and the other science teachers who helped prepare and present activities during the week.

Japanese Cultural Exchange Begins Next Week
This coming week MCS has the opportunity to welcome approximately 40 students from Ota Daiichi High School in Japan as part of our annual cultural exchange program.
Students will be arriving on Monday afternoon 18th August and sharing time with our student community from Tuesday next week. We are looking forward to hosting and learning a lot from them.
Helping Your Child Navigate a World of Worry
As part of our service and support of the families in our community, MCS has purchased a licence to Happy Families. This affords parents access to resources and live webinars led by Dr Justin Coulson as we consider some of the significant issues facing our children and youth today. These insights can help us as parents have more informed conversations with our children in a rapidly changing, highly technological society. This is the last chance to register for the following presentation.
Anxious: Helping Your Child Navigate a World of Worry offers a lifeline. In this presentation, Dr Justin Coulson will unpack what anxiety looks like in children and provide you with simple, practical strategies that are both clinically proven and easy to implement at home. Empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to support your child's emotional wellbeing and help them build resilience in the face of anxiety.

Supporting MCS Work Experience Students - Can you help?
We are so fortunate to be offering our Year 10 students an opportunity to enter the world of work through our Work Experience Program in Term 4, Week 6 & 7 (17th Nov- 28th Nov). We would love to extend an invitation to our wider MCS community to see if there is anyone who would like to partner with the school in offering a young person an opportunity to engage in a placement of Work Experience next term.
The focus of Work Experience is to provide our students with real life experiences in the working world, offering experiences beyond the scope of school.
If you would be interested or know of a local business who might be looking for such an opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Please contact Mrs Billet via email PenelopeBillett@acc.edu.au.
