HRIS Primary Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all our Primary students who represented MCS at the HRIS Primary Athletics Carnival. It was wonderful to see our students use the gifts that God has given them to worship Him. It was also very encouraging to see the resilience that they have developed in the way in which they worked together as a team and performed to the best of their ability in the rain. We are so proud of all of you!

Celebrating Year 2 Learning
This term, Year 2 students have been diving into the fascinating world of mixtures as part of our Integrated Studies and Creative Arts units. Our young scientists have been investigating how different materials can be combined and sometimes even separated again! Through hands-on experiments and classroom discussions, students learned to identify mixtures in everyday life. Some favourite activities included combining solids such as cocoa powder, rice bubbles and icing sugar and mixing cornflour, water and food colouring to observe how they behave. Not only did the students enjoy getting messy (and learning why some mixtures don’t mix well!), but they also began thinking critically about the properties of materials and why mixtures matter in real-world contexts like cooking, recycling, and cleaning.

Book Week and Book Fair
Book Week is next week 18th to the 22nd of August. The theme of this year’s Book Week is Book an Adventure!
Our annual Book Fair will be held during Book Week and will be located in the Terrarium classroom in the Administration building. All money raised will go to purchasing more books for the school library. Students will be given a chance to shop at the book fair during school hours.
During Monday and Tuesday, students will be able to preview the Book Fair and create a wishlist. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will be given time during class and at lunch to make purchases from the Book Fair. Some of our Prep students will be able to shop the Book Fair on Tuesday, as they will not be at school later in the week. The Book Fair will be open for parents on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 8.30am - 8.50am and on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.10pm - 3.45pm. The Book Fair will also be open after the costume parade on Friday morning.
There are several payment options available for the book fair. Students and parents may use cash, EFTPOS, or prepay online. To prepay online use the back of the wishlist and present this wishlist with the receipt number and the amount paid filled out. The receipt number and amount paid must be presented as proof of payment.
Book Parade and Grandparents Day
This year Grandparents Day will coincide with our Book Week Parade. We warmly invite all families and Grandparents to join us to watch the Book Parade. Our grandparents are then invited to a special morning tea to honour the contribution that they make to our students’ lives followed by a time of open classrooms where they can experience school life in 2025. The timetable for the morning is below:
9:15am - 10:30am | Book Parade in the Lighthouse |
10:30am - 11:15am | Grandparents Morning Tea in the Attrium
Grandparents welcome to visit the Book Fair with their grandchildren in the Terrarium |
11:15am - 12:00pm | Open Classrooms |
Please note: The beginning of the Book Parade and Grandparents day has now changed to 9:15am.
Costume Guidelines
We love the creativity and passion of our students, but will ask you to keep a couple things in mind when choosing a costume. Book Week is a celebration of books, not movies or television. We would like children to carry a copy of the book they took inspiration from during the parade to help show the idea behind their costume and to celebrate their favourite books.
Our Book Parade is an expression of our love of literature and is not a competition. There will be no prizes awarded for the Book Parade.
When choosing a costume please select one which is age, community and theme appropriate. The normal rules for out-of-uniform days apply. If you are unsure about a costume or if you have any further questions, please contact your child’s class teacher. Any student who does not wish to dress-up may come to school in their regular uniform.
I wish everyone a restful weekend with their families.
