T3, Week 3

Championing Neurodiversity with Dr Justin Coulson

Life for a neurodivergent child is a journey of highs and lows, marked by the joy of mastering new skills and the challenges of setbacks. As their parent or teacher, your support is crucial.

We have another wonderful opportunity for families to hear from Dr Justin Coulson in a live online webinar. Dr Justin Coulson will address neurodiversity in this webinar titled “Championing Neurodiversity: Helping Children Thrive in a Neurotypical World”.  The event will take place on Monday 19th August at 7pm, and for interested families, MCS will secure your place to attend.

Japanese Cultural visit

Next week 38 students from Ota Daiichi High School will be visiting us. The students are in Junior Secondary and will be on-site each day completing English lessons and Australian cultural lessons using Overflow’s Auditorium before coming across and sharing the afternoons with our students in classrooms. We are looking forward to sharing this time with them and we are praying that this will be a helpful experience for our students to get to know a little more about another culture throughout the week.

New Defence Mentor

Last week our Defence families wished Mrs Vanessa Cork a sad farewell after she had worked in the capacity of Defence Mentor for several years. We now welcome Mrs Eleanor Ward to the position of Defence Mentor at MCS and look forward to her working with our Defence families. Mrs Ward has a wealth of experience in working with and supporting students and their families and returns to MCS having worked at the school as a Secondary teacher in previous years.

Cyber Safety Presentation

On Thursday 29th August our Primary and Secondary students will attend a presentation by Brainstorm Productions outlining the challenges of using technology and how students can do this safely. This presentation will take place at MCS as an incursion covering part of our Digital and PDH curriculum. Secondary students will engage with a production called Wired from 9:00 - 10:20am and Primary students will engage with a production called Zanna and the Lost Code from 11:30am - 12:30pm. If you have any questions about this production please contact your child’s class teacher.

Father's Day Stall

We will be running our Father’s Day Stall on Thursday 29th August from 10:30am in The Lighthouse Foyer with gifts costing $3 or $5. Primary students are required to pay in cash and will attend with their class. Secondary students are able to pay with cash or card during 1st and 2nd break.

We are also seeking parent volunteers to be able to assist with students purchasing gifts at the stall. If you are able to help on the day please email LauraGill@acc.edu.au. To be able to volunteer in this capacity, a current Working with Children Check is required.

Father’s Day Breakfast

All families are invited to recognise and celebrate our wonderful fathers with breakfast on Friday 30th August from 7:30am - 8:30am.
