Many of our students participate in sports outside of the school that Medowie Christian School believes deserve recognition.

This week, we are privileged to be able to share some of the outstanding Rugby achievements from one of our Year 9 students, Lewis.

Over the summer holidays Lewis attended the Rugby Union Academy in Newcastle to keep himself fit. In April this year he travelled with his team, the Maitland Blacks, to New Zealand to play against some of the best schools in Canterbury at The Matches Festival. He even met some All Blacks and toured the Crusaders club rooms.

When he returned home he was successful in placing in the top 40 to trial for the Newcastle Hunter Wildfires U15s Representative team. They trained every Sunday and two trial weekends in Scone and Forster. He was successful in making the cut and was chosen to play at the State Championships held in Sydney over the June long weekend. His team played two games a day and placed 4th out of all the Country Representative Teams in NSW.

From there he was selected to trial for the NSW U15s Country team. Lewis went to camp the weekend before the July Holidays at Sydney Academy & Institute of Sport at Narabeen. It was a very hard weekend as they trained and played several games over two days. He was again successful and was on the final squad, only one of two boys selected from the whole Hunter Newcastle region.

The squad again went to camp the first weekend of the holidays and played the ACT and came away with the win. From there the last game was held in Maitland the weekend before school started against Sydney, although they didn't win it was a tough game and an amazing experience.

Not bad for a young man who only took up Rugby two seasons ago. During all of this, he still played his Club Rugby for Maitland Blacks each Saturday, only missing two games the whole season, and they finished third on the ladder for the year! His next adventure is trialling for Pasifika Cup at the end of September and an extensive Rugby 6-week training Academy at the beginning of December.
