T3, Week 1
MCS Athletics Carnival Cancelled
Unfortunately, with the weather last term and the lack of available dates this term, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our school Athletics Carnival. We are very sad we won’t be able to gather as a community to participate in the event.
HRIS Secondary Athletics
Congratulations to our HRIS Athletics team that travelled to Maitland on Wednesday to compete in the HRIS Secondary Athletics Carnival. On a wet and windy day, our students competed to the best of their abilities with some strong individual results sprinkled in throughout the carnival. If you qualify to represent HRIS at the AICES Athletics Carnival, you will receive communication from Mr Keith when the team is announced.

Shea (Year 7) and Cadence (Year 3) share their reflections on their recent Equestrian competitions:

"On the 27th of June, I went to the Australian Stock Horse Hunter Branch Challenge. It took three hours to get there and when my Dad, Molly and I arrived, l was glad to get out of the truck. After we got the horses off the truck, we put them into their yards and gave them food and water. We then got on our horses and rode them in the arena. My horses name is Blaze. After a long cold night it was time to get ready for the day. I did all of my patterns, draft, cutout and time trial. Let me explain what these are; I started with my hack pattern which is when you go out and show how neat and well behaved your horse is. Next is a working pattern, which is a demonstration of how well the horse can stop, turn around and its rate of speed. Following that is a draft which is when you cut a cow out of a camp yard. You call for your gate and chase the cow out into an arena and ride the clover leaf pattern. Following that I was up to a cutout. A cutout is when you remove a cow out of a group but since l was in the youngest age group, l only got one cow and I had to get it to the front of the camp yard. Finally I did a time trial, which is when you have to do a specific pattern which includes obstacles such as jumps, gates and barrels. My favourite thing is the draft but I did best in my hack class. It was a great fun weekend."

"I have recently competed at the North West Horse Expo in Coonabarabran representing MCS. Mum and I camped for 5 nights whilst I competed in dressage, sporting, showjumping, combined training, the team barrel race and hacking show rings. With almost 500 competitors from schools across NSW, it was an amazing opportunity to be able to compete at this event. The highlight of my week was winning Champion Hunter Pony in the hacking event. I met a lot of new friends and had a whole lot of amazing opportunities. It was an awesome experience."
