T2, Week 9
Camp Reflections
Thank you to our Year 7, 8 and 9 young people for a camp filled with adventure, positivity and encouragement. Throughout the week, their uplifting spirit and the trusting relationships within the group created a space where students could step outside their comfort zones, knowing they were supported and cheered on by their peers.
The Teen Ranch team shared high praise, commending our students as the “most supportive and encouraging of each other” they had encountered across all the schools they host—an incredible affirmation of the character and kindness our young people demonstrated.
Here are some highlights from the students about our time away:
“My most memorable moment was the high ropes and just being able to grow new friendships during the free time.” - Dylan
“My most memorable moment was feeling scared of facing my fears but pushing through it.” - Alice
“If you're looking forward to coming to camp next year then make sure you do all the activities and go to the highest level on the giant swing!” - Tiana
“My advice is to try everything, just give it a go and don't stay up too late.” - Amira
“In devotion time I learnt that we can go to the Lord just as we are, the Lord will take us as we are, and we are all on our own faith journey.” - Megan

Year 10 TAFE Program
Over the past 6 weeks, Year 10 students have had the opportunity to engage in the TAFE NSW YES (Youth Engagement Strategy) program. This has enabled them to gain practical skills and knowledge in various industries whilst learning about Vocational Education and School Based Apprenticeship pathways offered at MCS in Years 11 and 12.
Students were able to choose short courses that involved attending TAFE for one day each week and ranged across animal and horse care, to graphic or fashion design, cabinetry and hospitality.

Stage 6 Spanish Excursion
On Saturday 14th June the Year 11 and 12 HSC Spanish students traveled by train to North Sydney for the annual Spanish Speaking Day organised by the Spanish Teachers Association of NSW. They each had 3 "mock" HSC oral exams with 3 different Spanish teachers acting as examiners. It was a fantastic opportunity to replicate what the actual exam would entail and feel like so students can be better prepared for the real HSC exam and be aware of what they need to work.

MacBeth
The Year 10 cohort, accompanied by Mrs Sansom-Sherwill and Mrs Klopper, attended a live performance of Macbeth, their prescribed text for the term, at the Newcastle Theatre Company. The students were thoroughly engaged throughout, with many commenting on how seeing the play brought the characters and themes to life in a powerful and memorable way. They represented the school with maturity and respect, displaying excellent behaviour and making the most of this enriching learning experience.
