T2, Week 9
Term 2 Wrap-Up
This term has been both busy and rewarding, filled with a wide range of learning experiences and exciting events. Students have taken part in various sporting opportunities, including Futsal, Basketball, and the HRIS Cross Country, displaying great teamwork and enthusiasm.
We’ve also enjoyed a number of special events and excursions, such as the Year 1 incursion with Ranger Jamie, Prep’s dental health visit, Kindergarten’s excursion to the Hunter Valley Zoo, and Year 3’s trip to the Australian Reptile Park. Our student leaders represented us proudly at the GRIP Leadership Conference, and we captured precious memories on School Photo Day.
As the term draws to a close, we’ve been blessed with joyful Creative Arts experiences, including the delightful Year 2 Alice in Wonderland dress-up celebration and Year 4’s excursion to see the musical Mary Poppins Jr.—sparking imagination, creativity, and plenty of smiles!
Despite the challenges of heavy rain and major flooding, our students have shown resilience and perseverance, continuing to learn, grow, and shine in the people Christ has created them to be.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful student and parent community for your ongoing support throughout the term. We look forward to welcoming Tiia Wright-Baker back in Term 3!
Mary Poppins Jr.
As part of Year 4's learning in Creative Arts during Term 2, students had the opportunity to attend a musical production Mary Poppins Jr. at Maitland Christian School. This experience allowed them to observe and respond to the use of music, dance, and drama within a performance context.
The students were exemplary in their behaviour and thoroughly enjoyed spending the day out with their friends. They particularly enjoyed the lively musical numbers, creative staging, and the opportunity to see characters they had read about come to life on stage.
These are some of their favourite parts -
“It was wonderful! I loved the kites.” - Eva
“We loved supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!” - Jed and Elijah
“When Mary Poppins kissed Bert!” - Airlie

Kindergarten's 100 Days of School
Next Friday 4th July Kindergarten students will celebrate their first 100 days of school. Students may dress as they think they might look when they are 100 years old. Please note that students who would not like to dress up will wear their school uniform.
Students may also bring a small amount of food to share for morning tea. In light of 100 Days of School we are encouraging a food theme for "100" for example, anything dipped in 100's and 1000's, 100 segments of mandarin, 100 sultanas or 100 pieces of popcorn (estimated).
Students will also participate in special activities in each of the Kindergarten classes and their buddies will join them for a '100 Physical Challenge'. We look forward to celebrating 100 days of formal schooling together.
Week 10 Infants Sports Uniform Notice
Please note a temporary change to our sports uniform days for Week 10 only for our K-2 Infants students. Due to a special visit from a guest facilitator who will be running fun athletics skills and activities, students are asked to wear their sports uniform on Monday and Wednesday next week, instead of the usual days. We are excited for this opportunity to get active and learn some new skills, and we appreciate your support in helping students come prepared.

Year 2 Alice in Wonderland Day
On Thursday, our school transformed into the whimsical world of Wonderland for our Year 2 classes. Students and staff dressed as beloved characters; from Alice and the White Rabbit to the Mad Hatter, the card soldiers and the Queen of Hearts - bringing the classic story to life. The day was filled with themed activities such as a Mad Hatter’s tea party, riddles, croquet, a photo frame craft and a colourful character parade for our Year 2 students. It was a wonderful celebration of imagination, creativity and fun and we thank all families for helping make the day so special by organising costumes and providing such an extravagant spread of high tea nibbles for our Mad Hatter’s tea party.
“I loved all the food at the Mad Hatter’s tea party- especially the jelly cups”.
- Elizabeth (2AH)
“I had fun dressing up as the Mad Hatter and playing croquet”.
- Lachlan T (2DM)

HRIS Public Speaking
On Friday, 20th June, eleven MCS students travelled to Avondale University in Cooranbong to compete against students from other schools. All of our students gave their very best performances with Vinudi gaining first place in the Year 4 Poetry category and Serenity gaining third place in the Year 6 Poetry category. Well done to everyone, it was a pleasure to take you all!
“HRIS public speaking was a great experience to be part of. We had fun sharing our skills and performing our poems, bible passages and prepared speeches. We had a fun day and it was very chilled. We sat and watched everyone do a fantastic job doing their speeches. I have been going to HRIS public speaking since I was in Year 3 and this time I actually placed third in poetry. You never know what the judges are looking for! It has been a wonderful experience that has helped me grow more confident in speaking in public."

In Real Life Real Friends
This year the girls in Year 6 have been participating in a wellbeing program called "In Real Life Real Friends" which focuses on encouraging, motivating and up-skilling our students for resilient, healthy relationships. At the conclusion of the program the girls spend some time together celebrating and enjoying each other's company as they share stories, reflect on their friendships and of course, enjoy some yummy food.
