T2, Week 6

Years 7 - 9 Camp

Camp is fast approaching, and we cannot wait! We’re looking forward to the activities that have been planned for us to enjoy and be challenged with, including: archery, bush skills, catapults, combat archery, crate swing, giant swing, high ropes, horse riding, orienteering, rock climbing, abseiling and team initiatives, as well as opportunities to reflect upon Jesus, His love and kindness for us.

Thank you to all the parents who made time to join us this week for the camp information session.  A reminder to grant permission via the Sentral Parent portal today if you have not already done so.

Events

Over the last fortnight our students have had the opportunity to participate in a range of  events , including representative sport ,academic endeavours, Chess ,Art and Drama. We commend our students for representing our school with kindness, respect, and care, and for carrying themselves with pride and professionalism. It has been a privilege for our teachers to step away from their teaching schedules to provide these valuable opportunities for their students.

Year 7 Science: Separating Mixtures

This week, Year 7 students put their science skills to the test by separating a mixture of salt, sand, sawdust, and iron filings using a range of techniques. Shea, working with Harry and Aditya, said it was “fun using the Bunsen burner to crystallise the salt,” although separating the sand from the salt was tricky and “we lost 0.2g of salt.

Isla shared that she “learned to dry some of the substances before separating them” and explained that some sand was lost when it stuck to the magnet or stayed in the saltwater. Jasminder said it was “lots of fun separating mixtures,” especially using the magnet for the iron filings, though salt proved to be the hardest to recover. Ardie described the experiment as “a success” but noted that “it’s not that easy to measure exact grams and it can be quite time-consuming.

The activity deepened students’ understanding of physical separation techniques and highlighted the importance of accuracy, observation, and methodical problem-solving in scientific investigations.
