MCS Seniors Stand Tall

Our Senior students had the opportunity to travel to Sydney for the annual Stand Tall Youth conference on Thursday and had a wonderful yet BIG day in the city. The theme of Stand Tall 2023 was "It's time to fly". Our students were challenged to dig deep and work hard toward their dreams, no matter the obstacles they encounter. They were encouraged to check in on each other and be kind, because you never know someone else's journey. In addition to amazing musical performances by Timomatic and Jael Wena, we were inspired by incredible stories of resilience from rugby league player Nicho Hynes, inspirational speaker Michael Crossland, blind surfer Derek Rabelo and more.

Secondary Chess

Interest in playing chess at MCS in Secondary has been steadily growing throughout the year. Most lunchtimes in M26 you can see students happily playing chess in the hope of competing for the school. Our team has entered the NSWJCL (Junior Chess League) tournament once again this year and is playing in the Hunter region.

Chess Report from Mrs C Coates:

"Round 1 vs Hunter Christian School – we won on forfeit as Hunter withdrew from the competition.

Round 2 vs Irrawang High School – we travelled to Irrawang and drew 2 games all. As a result has to be determined on the day, the result on board 4 does not count, so we won 2 games to 1.

Round 3 vs Callaghan College Jesmond Campus – we hosted the team from Callaghan and lost 3 games to 1. All matches were hotly contested and one of the matches lasted for well over an hour. We now advance through to the second-round competition and should play again later this term or early in term three."

It is wonderful to see the chess community continue to grow and develop here at MCS. We are thankful for Mrs Coates and our Senior students who have been leading and building this club here at school and look forward to continued growth in the years ahead.

Career Tools

Throughout the term we have been investing time with our Year 10 students as they think and prepare for next year. We have held our Stage 6 Subject Roadshow here at school, taken the students to the Hunter careers expo and had small group planning meetings with students to help them in their preparations.

For our families, please know that we desire to support your child to find and take the next best step in becoming who God desires them to be. In your conversations at home you may find the following guide helpful.
