Our Culture of Community - What’s happening online?

Technology has become so pervasive in our society that in 2023 we see so called ‘SMART Phones’ more like a limb, something that we can’t remove ourselves from, as opposed to an assistant that we can choose to use to improve or enhance our lives. Whilst the internet and these devices combine to help us perform amazing things, unfortunately, the reality is they can also be highly damaging. What our young men and women can get access to online, at times, is a little frightening and because the technology is rather personal, for us as parents we are not always a part of their interactions or viewing the material they are consuming.

From my experience I have regrettably seen young men and women hurt by negative interactions online. I’d like to take a brief moment to encourage our parent community to having ongoing, open discussions with your child about how they are managing themselves online, where they are investing their time and do they feel this is helpful and beneficial?

We do have amazing young men and women at MCS, capable of so much good, however, they need our help and guidance as they learn to contribute positively to the online environment and school culture and community.

Wellbeing Wednesday

In Week 9, our secondary community will join together and take some time to focus on our wellbeing. We saw just how much this was needed throughout our COVID lockdown learning and is an initiative MCS has continued since returning to face to face learning. This year we plan to hold a number of wellbeing events to help promote a positive and supportive community at MCS, as we know how important the wellbeing of our community is.

Our First Wellbeing Wednesday Event will be held here at MCS on Wednesday 22nd March.

More information to follow.
