Our Culture of Community - What are our young men and women saying

We all want to be a part of great communities, work places, churches, clubs and homes. Sometimes we lose sight of the power or influence we have over a community or culture. How we show up matters; our mindset, our desire to get involved and contribute, to be a positive member of the community all influence what it feels like. We all know what it feels like when someone shows up to derail or make things difficult for others and if we’re being honest, we look to limit our exposure to, or remove ourselves from, these communities.

This week time was invested in Care Groups to encourage our young men and women in Year 10 - 12 to talk to us about the community they want to create and be a part of here at MCS. The conversation was highly engaging and positive and so I wanted to share some of the quotes from these sessions with our community. Now I know some things are easier said than done, however, at this point our young men and women are saying these things and we’re so pleased to be able to partner with them as they strive to walk in them.

“We want to be a courageous community where we are known for having a go, even when we’re unsure”

“We want to know our worth and to help bring this out in others around us”

“Respect is something we give and it is a reflection on our character”

“We desire to show initiative setting goals for ourselves and being confident to go after them”

There were so many great contributions from our student community however, these are just a sample for our broader community to see what we’re hoping to go after here at MCS.

Out and about

It has been encouraging to see many of our students getting out and inspired by what’s out there. This week our Year 11 Senior learners were able to visit Encore and Art Express to see some of the best performances and art works from across the state in last year's HSC.

Our Drama class were treated to the Broadway hit ‘Come from away’ as part of their performance studies this semester.

We had 7 young ladies attend the Women in Leadership Breakfast hosted by Kate Washington with Emily and Hannah representing the young women of MCS on stage as a part of the panel discussion.

Uniform matters

We are proud to have our team uniform which is a part of who we are, what we stand for and is our cue to work and learn when at school. At times, we do have some challenges with our learning community meeting the standards established and agreed upon as part of enrollment here at MCS. As we seek to enhance our community I believe an easy and visible way for us to do this together is to wear our uniform well and to the standards outlined within our policy and I seek our families support as we work with your children in this regard.

Please see here for a link to our Uniform Policy.

A quick note about our ladies skirts. It has come to our attention that some of these are being worn in a different style to how they have initially been designed. This is resulting in some of our young ladies needing a little more length in this item of uniform. If your daughter is needing a new skirt these can be purchased from the school uniform shop.
