T1, Week 8

A Community of Grace

When we consider the school environment we desire for our young people, we are building towards one that acknowledges we are all on a continuous journey of learning and growth. This journey happens in every corner of school life: from navigating interactions across different subjects and teachers, to learning how to resolve conflict when we are hurt, to including those who are new and stepping into unfamiliar activities.

Of course, this journey is not without its bumps. Mistakes are made and redirection is sometimes necessary. We choose to hold our young people to high standards because we expect the very best of them and want the very best for them. Consequently, when discipline is required, it is approached with a focus on moving forward, maintaining relationships while providing a genuine opportunity for growth.

Through a wide range of opportunities in Secondary School, our ultimate goal remains the same: to equip every student (spiritually, academically, socially, and physically) to step confidently into their future while showing Jesus to those around them.

It is a true blessing to work alongside our student community as we attempt, as best we can, to emulate Jesus each day. It is my hope that we will always be a community that genuinely cares for, encourages, and builds a culture of grace.

Science and Engineering Challenge

On Thursday, our Year 10 students journeyed to the University of Newcastle to put their problem-solving skills to the test in the annual Science & Engineering Challenge. Competing in eight teams of 2–4, our students went head-to-head against other schools in a series of rigorous STEM-based activities.

The day was packed with diverse challenges, including:

  • Engineering & Design: Bridge building and wind turbine development.

  • Environmental Logic: Building eco-habitats and "trapping" fish.

  • Technology & Physics: Using light for communication, navigating model planes toward targets, and powering a city grid.

While the technical tasks were impressive, the real highlight was witnessing the cooperation and collaboration within each team. Most importantly, our students demonstrated incredible resilience, grappling with frustration and learning from failure to ultimately find success.

We are thrilled to announce that Medowie Christian School placed 3rd overall on the day. We continue to support this annual event to inspire our students and open doors to future careers in the world of STEM.
