Celebration of Term 1 Primary Learning
What a wonderful Term 1 we have had in our Primary Department! It has been lovely to see our Prep, Kindergarten and new students in other year levels join us and quickly become part of our MCS family. There has been some great learning taking place in all of our classes thanks to our eager students and dedicated teachers. Some of the highlights from this term are listed below.
Prep
During the term our Prep students have been learning many sounds. One of the sounds they have learned is /m/. They have made some mice to help them remember the sound /m/. First they painted a background using watercolours. Next they made a body using white paper and added some ears and a tail. Last of all, they drew a nose, two eyes and some whiskers.

1CW
In 1CW this term the students have been learning about our Underwater world. It was interesting learning about the zones of the ocean. A highlight has been creating dioramas where Mrs Witenden asked the children to create the Sunlight zone, Twilight zone or Midnight zone. The sea creatures added to what would be seen if they were to visit that part of the ocean. The amazing creativity and enthusiasm shown by all the children was such a wonderful way to celebrate all that they had learned.

2DM
In Integrated Studies, 2DM have focused on the question: How do plants grow and change? They observed and investigated how plants grow and change by conducting a scientific investigation. Students demonstrated their understanding of this by making careful observations of plant growth; recognising the steps involved in planning and carrying out a scientific investigation; predicting how tall and fast a plant might grow based on their knowledge of plants; using lego bricks to measure and record plant growth and analysing their observations to draw conclusions about the growth of their bean plant.
