National Sorry Day

Last Friday Australia remembered National Sorry Day, a day in 2008 when the Australian Prime Minister apologised to Indigenous Australians for the way they have been treated by an Australian Government driven by European traditions. This was a huge moment in Australian history. A time when the Australian Government acknowledged the poor treatment of Indigenous Australians in the past and vowed to make the relationship between all Australians better moving forward. At Primary Assembly today we remembered the original apology to Indigenous Australians and considered how God wants us to make peace with others by apologising for our part in conflict by using the PeaceWise 5 A’s of apology. In the Primary Department of MCS we use this process to help our students work towards a peaceful solution to conflict. During our Reconciliation Week Assembly our students were encouraged to constantly strive to resolve conflict using their PeaceWise strategies and we pray that all Australians will be able to walk forward in peace together.

School Uniform

It was wonderful to see all our Primary students so beautifully dressed in Winter Uniform for our school photos this week. This significantly helped our students have a sense of pride and belonging to the MCS community. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, an aspect of the school uniform that can often be overlooked is the MCS school bag. Just a reminder that as stated by the MCS Uniform Policy students are required to have the MCS monogrammed navy backpack. The old maroon backpacks are no longer a part of our school uniform. If your child is using a maroon backpack by choice and they own a navy backpack please make sure that they bring their navy backpack to school. For the few students who still have a maroon backpack, the school has purchased some navy blue backpacks and upon their arrival the school will swap them for the maroon backpacks at no cost.
