Host our Japanese Exchange Students

This year once again Medowie Christian School will host Japanese students as a part of their international exchange program for one week from August 18th (Sunday) to August 26th (Monday). We are seeking expressions of interest from our MCS families who may be in a position to host 2 students for the week.

Share your lifestyle & home whilst experiencing another culture.

  • Students attend school on weekdays and enjoy family life with you on the weekend.

  • Japanese language is not necessary.

  • Students just fit in with your family routines – eat your food, they need their own bed but can share a room.

  • Families are paid $50 per night.

If you can assist in hosting a student or would like more information, please contact VS Oceania.

Midyear Reading Challenge

In the upcoming holidays our library will be running the Midyear Reading Challenge.

Students will be given the opportunity to complete a series of reading related challenges during the school holidays. For every challenge a student completes they will earn five points for their house. The challenge sheet (found below) will also be distributed to Primary classrooms, and copies will be available in the library for any Secondary student who wishes to participate.

This is a voluntary activity to encourage house spirit and reading during the school holidays, so join in with us.

Wellbeing Wednesday

On Wednesday, 3rd July MCS will celebrate Wellbeing Wednesday. On this day our students will learn about the importance of growing and maintaining positive relationships, developing strategies to take care of their mental health and the importance of cultivating friendships with a diverse group of people. This will help them avoid bullying and develop empathy for others as well as resilience in challenging situations. Wellbeing Wednesday will be observed differently in both Primary and Secondary.

Primary

Our beloved Ms Pietsch is setting off on a mission trip to Rwanda over the July School Holidays. During this time she will be visiting schools and will be working with teachers to train them in teaching Literacy and Numeracy as well as working with students. Our Primary students are partnering with her to help her do this by raising funds on Wellbeing Wednesday by holding a Winter Warmer Mufti Day and Cake Stall.

When: Wednesday 3rd July, 2024

Wear: MCS Sport Uniform with Winter Accessories eg beanie, scarf, warm socks.

Cost: Gold coin donation.

Our Primary Student Leaders will run a cake stall during Break 1 and 2. We ask that all families generously donate a prebaked, packaged selection of small cakes bought from a supermarket including a list of the ingredients. These will be sold for $1 each. A special dietary stall will also be made available to students who have particular food allergies or intolerances. Cake donations should be brought to school on the day and kept in classrooms until student leaders collect them ready to be sold.

Following our Literacy and Numeracy sessions in the morning our Primary classes will be involved in learning experiences that allow them to experiment with different wellbeing strategies that do not involve technology.

Secondary

Secondary leaders have decided that Wellbeing Wednesday this year will target the theme of Bullying and Kindness by raising money for Do it for Dolly.

Our day will consist of some fun on the inflatables, A Guessing Jar, Pie Face, Music, shared laughs with CareGroups, a photo booth and a ButterFly Wall.

For Years 7 to 10 our day will be from Period 1 through to lunchtime with students still attending sport in the afternoon.

Our Senior students will have the inflatables for the afternoon and there may even be some sneaky teachers who have a jump or two.

When: Wednesday 3rd July, 2024

Wear: MCS Sport Uniform with one item of blue clothing (hat, socks, jumper, scarf etc).

Cost: Gold coin donation

Secondary students can purchase items throughout break times from the Stan Van and participate in activities:

  • Zooper Dooper: 50c

  • Chips: $1.50

  • Soft Drink: $2.00

  • Guessing Jar: $1.00 per guess

  • Pie Face: $1.00 per throw or $4.00 for 5 throws

If families would like to donate and help us to raise funds please visit the specific fundraising page MCS Fundraising for Medowie Christian School.

Please note: Registration is under the name Ange Neale (Head of Secondary).
