T1, Week 8

Year 7 Scientists

Recently Year 7 have completed their first Science assessment task, researching well-known Australian Scientists and their contributions to the world of Science.

“I liked researching John Cornforth and learned that he went to university at 18 after becoming deaf at a young age, and went on to become a head professor at the University of Sussex.” - Charlize

Aishy and Florence both researched Gabi Hollows, with Aishy sharing, “I enjoyed learning about how she helped eliminate avoidable blindness,” while Florence mentioned that, “I enjoyed combining creativity and science by using colours and research in my project.”

Congratulations Year 7 on completing some well-researched tasks!

Cross Country

Cross Country is upon us next week, and there have been a lot of students getting warmed up already! Our young people have walked the track this week to familiarise themselves.

Our secondary students will have normal lessons until lunchtime so all learning materials will be required for the day. Marshalling will begin at 12:55pm in the school hall and Ages 16, 17 and 18 (Boys) will then move straight to the track… for their big 6km run!

Secondary will commence races from 1:15pm and finish by 3:10pm:

  • 1.30pm  - 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 Years Girls (4 km)

  • 1.45pm - 14 & 15 Years Boys (4km)

  • 2.00pm - 12 & 13 Years Girls (3 km)

  • 2.15pm - 12 & 13 Years Boys (3 km)

There will be music to enjoy and inter-house activities organised around the Stan Van after our young people have run with time to form connections with one another across year groups.

Tall Trees

As part of the Tall Trees Academy initiative, our Year 11 and 12 young men recently welcomed a guest speaker from the University of Newcastle. Dr Shep Chidarikire, a highly experienced mental health nurse, holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in men’s mental health and has been lecturing in the field for over a decade. Beyond his professional expertise, Dr Shep has navigated an inspiring life journey of his own and is a devoted Christian. He shared his experiences, offering valuable insights on faith, resilience, and the importance of caring for oneself and others along life’s path.

Assessment Help

Assessment assistance is available during lunchtimes on Mondays and Tuesdays in M25. Secondary learners are encouraged to come along and ask for help, study together, work on assessment tasks or seek clarification about their classwork. Bring along your lunch and learn from one another whilst getting help from our LE team.

Please continue contacting your child’s CareGroup teacher at any time throughout the year to answer any questions or queries you may have. We desire to work with our families to ensure our young people are Well Known, Well Loved and Well Taught.
