What a big week it has been for our Secondary students this week! We've had

  • some of our Year 10 students participating in Work Experience,

  • a Stage 4 Tiny Science Lab incursion where they learned more about science, chemistry and this wonderful world around us, and

  • our Year 10 students not currently at Work Experience gained hands-on experience painting while serving our school community, giving two of our classrooms a much needed make over.

Final Weeks of the Year!

As we approach the end of the school year I’d like to encourage our learning community to continue to focus and engage with the many meaningful learning opportunities staff are planning over the next few weeks. I am thankful for all the work and learning that has been planned by our teaching team and the way in which our students have engaged with their teachers in a range of opportunities throughout the year. A few key reminders for our community are below.

Our school reports are scheduled to be released in Week 8 of Term and it is our hope that these will deliver helpful reflections on the learning that has been invested in throughout the 2022 Academic School Year.

As part of our Celebrations and thankfulness for the 2022 school year we are looking forward to the following events and activities in Week 9. More information will come home with greater detail surrounding the following:

  • Mon 5th Dec: Christmas Chapel and Markets

  • Tues 6th Dec: End of Year Celebration Service

  • Wed 7th Dec: Secondary Fun Day (Off-site)

Stage 4 STEM Spectacular

Stage 4 had a wonderful opportunity to get involved with ‘hands on’ science experiences on Thursday, participating in workshops run by Jacob Strickling from Tiny Science Lab. Jacob provided students with a ‘Tiny Science kit’ which contained all they needed to conduct a variety of science experiments. Students explored changes in temperature and “the amazing quality of water”, looking at topics such as surface tension and whether salt or sugar dissolves in water quicker. The students had a great time exploring science with the tiny kits.

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students were given the opportunity of undertaking one or two weeks of work experience this term, with this week being the first week. Several of our students have taken up the opportunity to participate in work experience within the local community, at gyms, a dance studio, physiotherapist, real estate agent, vet surgeries, as well as becoming ‘student teachers’ at MCS. We are really proud of all of them for trying something new, stepping out of their comfort zone and taking the opportunity to learn more about a possible career path.

We would like to encourage our current Year 9 students to begin thinking about what work experience opportunities they might like to pursue in Term 4 next year.

Year 10 Service - getting their hands (and clothes!) dirty

On Thursday and Friday, our Year 10 learners who have not yet started their work experience participated in service to our school community. These students have been giving two of our classrooms, Cave 1 and Cave 3, a much needed make-over. For many of our students, this service experience started with some trepidation, having never painted a room before, but we are so proud of the enthusiasm and participation by these students as they learn new skills and do something to support our school community.

There is still so much to look forward to for our learning community and as always we are grateful to be able to partner with you all.
