Our Culture of Learning - Information for our Students and Their Parents

In 2023 we have TWO focus priorities - improving our approach to community and learning. This week as a Staff Team we continued our work around the development of Agile Learners. We would like all of our students to have an Agile Learner mindset.

An Agile Learner is someone who understands that their brain is a muscle and if they can’t do something, well they can’t do it YET. They believe with the right kind of effort, practise and appropriate habits of mind, that it’s only a matter of time before they can do it.

This week we reflected on the part that Self Efficacy (the self belief that you can do something) plays in helping a learner to grow. I would like to invite our families on the journey with us and ask for your support and partnership in building our culture of learning and help us to equip our young men and women with agile minds that can work within a range of contexts, can apply strategies to be successful and stay the course when things are tough.

Below are some indicators of what someone with high self-efficacy might look like.

  • They regard problems as challenges to be solved

  • They believe they can affect change on their situation

  • They set goals and put in place small simple steps to achieve them

  • For them failure is not fatal it is just the First Attempt In Learning

From our Care Group Team

Hopefully you received a communication earlier in the week from Mr Keith and Mrs Martens outlining some more information surrounding their roles and their heart for your child this year. In the coming weeks our Care Group Team will be also emailing home to introduce themselves and connect with you.

In Secondary, your child's Care Group Teacher is a helpful point of contact for you to gain further information about your child, to keep up to date with current news and events from school, and to collaborate with for your child's educational development. I would like to commend them all to you as caring and high quality professionals who do have your child’s best interests at heart. Please keep an eye out for these communications and take hold of the opportunity to connect with them and share your hopes for your child in 2023.

Year 7 and 10 Vaccinations

This week (Thurs 23rd Feb) we have a team of nurses from NSW Health coming to administer vaccinations to our Year 7 & 10 students. Communication was shared via the Parent Portal with instructions for providing permission for this to take place. Please note that forms for this are to be completed online through myGov. There will be a slight amendment to the Thursday lesson program to accommodate this.
