In this week's Secondary News find out about how to help your child Learn Better and all the details of our Year 7 Immersion Day.

Learn Better

Speaking at Secondary Assembly this week I shared a clip from Jim Kwik, who shared some wisdom for our students on learning that I wanted to share with our broader school community. The key take-away and encouragement for our students and their learning was to ‘BE FAST’.

  • B = Believe to learn something new we need to believe in ourselves that with effort and focus we can do it!

  • E = Exercise, as our body moves our brain grooves, it is important for our students to have a regular routine of physical activity to help engage effectively in learning.

  • F = Forget, remove the distractions, forget what you think you know and genuinely approach each new task or concept with a clear, fresh start.

  • A = Active, be an active participant in the learning process, ask questions, take notes, take initiative to learn more.

  • S = State, all learning is state dependant, our mindset matters and the state of mind we’re in when it comes to learning determines our effectiveness.

  • T = Teach, when we learn something it benefits us even more if we get to teach it to someone else, whether that be a peer or family member, when we teach something we get to learn it twice.
