Light Up the Night – Celebration Preparations!
Students from Kindergarten to Stage 3 have shown incredible energy, creativity, and dedication as they prepare for our Light Up the Night 30th birthday celebration on Thursday 3rd July. With the support of our enthusiastic staff, rehearsals have been full of fun, teamwork, and excitement. We look forward to a joyful evening celebrating our school community and all we’ve achieved together. We look forward to seeing you there! More information in the Whole School News.
Lunchtime Clubs – Exploring Interests and Building Community
Every term, our dedicated teachers generously give their time to offer a diverse range of lunchtime clubs that cater to a variety of student interests. These clubs provide wonderful opportunities for students to explore new activities, develop skills, and connect with others beyond the classroom.
Whether it's finding their voice in Public Speaking, expressing themselves in Dance or Choir, building confidence in Basketball, sharpening strategy in Chess, enjoying the outdoors in Mountain Biking, or growing in faith through Ministry, there is something for everyone.
Lunchtime clubs not only help students discover new passions, but also foster a strong sense of belonging, collaboration and community across year levels. We are proud of the enthusiasm our students bring to each session and grateful to our teachers for their ongoing commitment to creating such engaging and inclusive experiences.

Each week we are excited to hear from inside our Primary classrooms and find out what is happening. Please enjoy this week’s instalment from our Primary Clubs…
Ministry
Our Primary Ministry Team is a group of passionate and servant-hearted students who come together regularly to grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. As they learn more about His love, grace, and truth, they’re equipped and encouraged to be "salt and light" in our school — sharing kindness, leading by example, serving others with joy - just like learning new bible memory verses and actions! Along the way, they’ve also been thinking deeply about how to make our Primary Chapel services more engaging, with a desire to help their peers grow in their knowledge and love of Christ.
“I love that we get to learn more about God and think of ways to help the school community.”
- Henley.
“I love that we can share how we feel and think about God and that we can praise Him.”
- Eden.
“I love that we get to learn more about Jesus and what he’s done for us.”
- Izzy.

Mountain Bikes
We are very blessed to have our very own bike track, catering to all riding abilities. From jumps and berms to a basic short loop for our younger riders and even a longer cross-country circuit for those wanting more of a work out—there’s something for everyone.
Each Wednesday and Thursday, dozens of students—from Kindergarten right through to Senior High School—head out onto the track and enjoy the beauty of our natural environment. It's great seeing so many students actively engaged, building skills, confidence and interacting with others from across the school.
“Mountain Bike Club is the best time at school. I have not missed one session since it started.”
- Harry (Year 6)
“Bike Club is the best time of the school day.”
- Lachlan (Year 2)
“I remember the first time I rode, I felt grateful to have an opportunity to ride during school time. Mr. Parraga helped me learn every time I fell. He helped me up and taught me to be strong and to not cry when I crashed. I’m passionate about riding and I’m glad we get to ride at school. I think people can improve their riding if they come to bike club but it’s also good just to have fun riding with your friends.”
- Noah (Year 5)

Chess
Every Friday, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 gather for some friendly competition over the chessboard. From clever checkmates to surprising stalemates, it’s been a joy to see students thinking ahead, learning from each other, and having fun in the process. Whether rookies or rising grandmasters, everyone’s been making their move!

Public Speaking
The MCS Primary Public Speaking Club is open to all students aged 8 to 12 who are keen to build confidence and learn the art of delivering a powerful and engaging speech. Held weekly during a Tuesday lunchtime, this club offers students the chance to practise their public speaking skills in a supportive and fun environment.
Throughout the year, students work on voice projection, expression, body language, and how to structure an effective speech. They prepare for a variety of speaking opportunities, including formal school events such as the ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services. Club members also have the exciting opportunity to compete in the annual HRIS Public Speaking Competition held in June at Avondale University.
Whether students are new to public speaking or already confident presenters, the club helps them grow as thoughtful, clear, and inspiring communicators.
“Public speaking is a really fun club where I have the privilege to learn poetry and some bible readings to present at the HRIS competition.”
- Serenity (Year 6)
“I love public speaking because there are many people encouraging me to do my best and to be confident. It helps me improve when reading aloud and also helps me be confident and believe in myself.”
- Abigail (Year 4)

Choir
The Primary Choir is a dedicated group of students from Year 2 through to Year 6 who rehearse each week on Fridays during Break 2. It has been lovely to have our new Year 2 friends join us this year. We had the opportunity to perform at Easter Chapel and have loved rehearsing with VIBE (Secondary Vocal Ensemble) in preparation for our core role in the community choir Finale in ‘Light Up the Night’. We will be welcoming new choir members next term as we begin our Christmas preparations. The Primary Choir is a commitment across a semester. The students sign up and are invited to attend choir for three weeks at the start of each semester before deciding on committing to weekly workshops.
Congratulations to all of our choir members on their outstanding commitment so far this year.
“I love singing and also that I can go to choir and get better at singing. I was excited to get to Year 2 so that I could join the choir this year.”
- Lyla 2AH
“I love singing so I joined the choir. I had to wait until Year 2 so that I could join. I love getting to perform on stage.”
- Aria 2DM
“I joined the choir because I really like singing and I have been singing for a long time. I like doing voice exercises to warm up. I was nervous about going on stage but it was fun.”
- Grayson 3DP
“I joined the choir because we get to sing every week and perform also. I love going to choir each week. I was in the choir at my previous school too.”
- Evalee 3LR
“I felt really excited about joining the choir because my mum was in the choir and she got to sing at The Opera House. She really loved it so I thought that I would love it too. I do really love it too. I have enjoyed singing on stage and spending time with my friends during choir.”
- Grace 5/6HR
“I joined the choir when I was in Year 2. I have always loved singing. Some of my highlights have been singing at special services such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. It is also a joy to sing Christmas Carols and visit the nursing homes at Raymond Terrace and Hawks Nest each year.”
- Serenity 5/6CP
