In this week's Primary News, read about the fun of book week, our upcoming Stage 3 camp, the HRIS chess competition and more.

We started this week learning our fortnightly memory verse as we continue to reflect on the lessons God teaches us in Psalm 23. Mrs Nala taught the Primary students some very fun actions to help them remember our focus verse:

‘Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.’ (Psalm 23:4).

I encourage everyone to ask your children to recite this verse and show you the actions. It is very encouraging to see the enthusiasm that our students apply to learning the memory verses and the courage that many of them show by reciting them in front of all of our Primary Department.

Book Week

What a wonderful time we had during Book Week last week. Thank you to all the parents who came and enjoyed our Book Parade. A great time was had by all!

A special thanks goes to:

  • Mrs Anita Forbes, our guest author, who worked with our students to help them develop a passion for writing,

  • Mr Allen for organising our crazy Reader’s Theatre, and

  • Miss Bignill for co-ordinating all the wonderful learning experiences that the students had the opportunity to engage with.

I can hardly wait to see what exciting things we will do for Book Week next year!

HRIS Chess Competitition

Today, MCS sent eight extremely talented Stage 3 students to compete in the HRIS Chess Tournament at Avondale School. Two hundred and eighty children from schools all over our region competed throughout the day. This was the most chess players ever entered in the event’s history.

Our teams won many of their games, keeping in the top three schools for most of the competition. It is exciting to see the positive impact our weekly Chess Club has generated this year. Chess Club is offered as an extra- curricular activity to students each Monday.

Congratulations to Kaden, Elouise, Raphael, Darcy, Charlie, Boston, Diyah and Dylan for representing our school in Chess. We cannot wait for next year!

Stage 3 Camp

Only three sleeps left till Stage 3 Camp! We are so excited to be taking our Stage 3 students on camp for the first time in 2 years! Stage 3 will depart MCS on Monday to spend 3 days at Coffs Coast Adventure Centre. We are all looking forward to participating in some exciting outdoor adventure activities, rising to the challenge and developing a growth mindset.

Stay tuned to our Parent Portal and Facebook page for regular updates about our adventures throughout the camp. We are praying for beautiful weather and a great time away together

Kindergarten 2023 Orientation Tuesday 8th November

We are excited to announce that our Kindergarten 2023 Orientation will take place on Tuesday, 8th November from 9:30am- 11:30am. 2023 Kindergarten students and their families are invited to join us on this morning to become familiar with Kindergarten routines and experience a sneak peak of the learning adventure they have in front of them.

The children will spend time in the Kindergarten classrooms with the Kindergarten teachers and during this time we invite parents to join some key staff in our staffroom to find out everything you need to know for Kindergarten 2023.

Primary Students and the Coffee Van

We are so blessed to have a coffee van on our doorstep and our students especially enjoy the occasional hot chocolate bought by their parents before school. If you are purchasing hot chocolate for your children, please do this before they enter the school grounds. Once students have arrived at school they are not permitted to leave to attend the coffee van. This is so we can ensure that all our students are safe.

I wish all our families a restful weekend.
