Book Week

Book Week Artwork by Matt Ottley

Book Week is coming! Book Week will be held this term from the 21st to the 25th of August (Week 5). It was wonderful to celebrate Book Week last year after such a long break and we are excited to bring it back again this year. The theme of this year’s Book Week is Read, Grow, Inspire. The week will be filled with activities and challenges designed to instil your child with an excitement for reading and storytelling.

Book Fair

During Book Week regular library lessons will be suspended as a Book Fair will be set up in the library. On Monday and Tuesday, Students will be able to preview the Book Fair and create a wish list (see image).

Book Fair Wish List Form

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, students will be able to shop at the Book Fair. For any parents who wish to shop at the Book Fair, it will be open at the end of the school day and after the Costume Parade on Friday.

We have available three ways for making purchases at the Book Fair:

  • EFTPOS

  • Cash

  • Online Payments

Online payments are made with the wish lists given to students on Monday and Tuesday. You will find information for online payments on the wish list form. When the payment is made online, copy the receipt number and the amount paid to the back of the wish list. The wish list is then handed over at the Book Fair for the items purchased. Every purchase made helps to raise money for the library and make more books available to our students.

This year’s Book Fair will also feature our wishing wall. Any one who wishes to make a donation of a book to the library can choose a title from the wishing wall. A book plate will be placed inside the cover to honour your donation.

Costume Parade

On Friday 25th of August, we will have our costume parade from 9.30 - 10.30am. Primary students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and parents are welcome to watch the procession.

We love the creativity and passion of our students, but will ask you to keep a couple things in mind when coming up with a costume. Book Week is a celebration of books, not movies or television. We would like children to carry a copy of the book they took inspiration from during the parade.

Our costume parade is an expression of our love of literature and is not a competition. There will be no prizes awarded for the dress-up parade.

When choosing a costume please select one which is age appropriate, community appropriate and theme appropriate. The normal rules for out-of-uniform days apply. Children are encouraged to pick a beloved book from the school library. If you are unsure about a costume or if you have any further questions, please contact your child’s class teacher. Any student who does not wish to dress-up may come to school in their regular uniform.

Kind regards,

ree
